The four constraints that shape your choice.
Most electronics brands don't lose on pick rate — they lose because the 3PL isn't built for the operational shape of the category.
Every device with a serial number must be scanned at receipt and dispatch. Your 3PL must hold the serial-to-order mapping for warranty processing, theft tracking, and return validation.
Devices containing lithium-ion batteries are dangerous goods (UN3480/3481). Your 3PL must hold IATA / ADG training, classify shipments correctly, and use compliant packaging on outbound.
Bare PCBs, semi-finished electronics, and some consumer devices need ESD bags and grounding. Most general 3PLs don't have ESD-safe pick areas.
Returns are higher-touch than apparel — customer faulty/DOA decisioning, RMA tracking, often replacement-then-refund. Your 3PL needs an RMA workflow that integrates with your support team.
What you should be paying.
Electronics pick rates run 10–25% above the AU median because of serial scanning overhead and DG handling. Insurance requirements are higher (peak inventory often runs 3–5× monthly revenue), and shrinkage thresholds need to be tighter (0.1% not 0.25%).
What we see in electronics audits: Electronics brands consistently under-insure and under-track serials. The first major theft event reveals the gap — usually $30K–$200K of unrecoverable inventory.

What to walk away from
Generic 3PLs that lump electronics in with apparel or homewares. The compliance and serial-tracking gaps will hurt you eventually — either via customs, warranty disputes, or theft.
"Electronics 3PL is bought on serial tracking and DG compliance, not pick rate. The wrong choice is expensive in ways that don't show up on the monthly invoice."
